Jaggery soup ( gulab)

 Ingredients 

Jaggery   Grated   1/2.  Cup 

2 table spoon ghee

Wheat flour.          1 cup

Water.    3 cup

Cardamom powder.    1/4 tea spoon

I n a big vessel add water and jaggery  and let it boil while stirring occasionally so as to avoid jaggery in sticking to the bottom of vessel .When it is dissolved and start boiling then turn off the flame .

Strain it in so as to whatever impurities are there in jaggery will be removed

Now let it cool to room temperature

Mean while take a kadahi and put two tablespoon of ghee and pu wheat flour and switch on the flame of burner.Start roasting the flour on a low flame while stirring properly.When Flour turns slightly pink and start giving nice aroma of roasting then turn of the flame 

When both flour and syrup are at room temp then mix them with the help of a whisker.and turn on the burner .

Continuously stirring cook it till it starts boiling .

After boil let it cook for 2 minutes and then turn of the 

Add cardamom powder .

Serve it hot or cold depending upon the weather and you choice

For winter it best when served hot with a sprinkle of ginger powder.

Multi colored Baby quilt

This is very simple pattern.It is very easy for a beginner.

Material required

Finished measurement 

35" by 40"

Three different colors of fabric 3/4 metre each

Backing fabric preferably soft 

Batting 

Cut strips of 3" width longitudinally from each fabric

Join these strips by repeating all the three colors

This one is a multicolor afghan with white background.Selection of colors depends upon your choice.
I used four different colors with white.

Material required

3 balls of white (50 gms each)
1 ball each of four different colors.
Crochet hook of 4.25 no

Make 151chains.
    1st row          Turn and in second chain make one single crochet.Now continue making single crochet in each chain till last

.2nd row.        You have now 150 single crochet.Make one chain and turn.Make 2 single crochet in first two single crochet. *Now skip three single crochet and make 7double crochet in next single crochet.Again skip three single crochet and in next three single crochet make three single crochet *
Repeat from * to *chain 1 and turn

3rd row.    Single crochet in each stitch through the row

Repeat row 2nd and 3 rd twice with white .
Now change the color  and crochet next two rows .
Again 2nd and 3rd white twice
Keep on changing color as in picture till required length is achieved.With last four rows white bind of

Make border along four sides .
First with white
First , 2nd and 3rd row with single crochet.(white yarn)

Change color of your choice and make edging.

3 single crochet in each single crochet then  * skip 3 single crochet and make 4 double crochet in 4th single crochet *..skip 3 single crochet
At corners make 4 dc in 2 consecutive single crochet .

It is so much fun to make quilts specially for those who love fabrics.Now if you have a baby in the house then this fun becomes multifolded.

As the baby quilts are a small projects which gives a sense of achievement soon

Here is the pattern which is easy but looks interesting.

Size  40"  width
        48" length
                                       
Material required

Red 1 1/2 yards
Green,floral  cotton cloth  (one yard each)

Yellow  2 yards

A nursery print piece of 41" *49" fo rbacking of quilt(It should be soft and color should match with the quilt top color

A piece of batting of 41"*49"

Quilting thread.

Sewing machine and a pair of scissors.

Cutting

Cut stripes of 2 1/2 " widthand 8 1/2 " from all colors.

Cut yellow stripes of 4" width and 90" length

Making of blocks

For making block  join these stripes in the order of

green ,floral yellow and red.

make 20 blocks like this .Now join them in a pattern .One block horizontal and another vertical.

This will give zig zag pattern.

From yellow cut a stripe of 4"

sew this on all the four sides of joined piece.

Cut a red stripe of 2" width for binding.


Now for assembling the quilt

Put the lining cloth reverse side up .Now spread the batting over it.

At last put the quilt top right side on the batting.

With the help of pins fix these three layers .Now start quilting from the centre of the quilt towards boundary.

                         


Quilting can be done by machine or hand.In this quilt it has been done by machine as the quilt size is small it is easily manoevrable.Start quilting also from centre to border.

When quilting is finished then binding will be done.take a 1 1/2 " red strip of the length equal to all the four sides.this will be equal to 180 " length.Sew it towards backing side with right side towards the backing .then fold it towards quilt top and sew it on this side .

Your quilt is ready .

Tips

  It is better to use cotton fabrics as it can be stitched neatly.

All the colors should be from same fabric..

Use fast color fabrics.

With the arrival of spring heavy woollens like cardigans  are a burden for kids .all they need is a light
 weight vest for protection from light cold.

I have made this three color vest for my grandson .You can also try.

Length  18 1/2"

Breadth 14"

Shoulder length  6 1/2"


Material required

100 gms of  white yarn

50 gms of rust and yellow each

1 pair of knitting needle no 9

Back Piece

  Number of stitches should be such that when divided by by 4 then remainder is 3

Cast on 91 stitches with white yarn  for back piece.Make a border with 1 knit and 1 pearl.

When it 2 1/2 " or 15 lines then change to stockinette stich.

After 16 " total (2 1/2 border and 13 1/2 length) then give shape for shoulders by binding off the stitches.

BO 4 stitches at the beginning of the line on both sides.

 In  next  line BO 3 stitches on each side.

Next line  BO 2 stitches

Now 72 stitches are remaining

 Keep on knitting till the shoulder length is 6 1/2".
Give shape to neck at the back

Knit 36 stitches and then turn around leaving remaining 36 on the needle .Start knitting back towards the same side and binding off the stitches as follows.

First line     BO 10 and then next lineBO 6.

 BO  remaining 20  stitches for shoulder.

Now tie the thread in the center and shape the remaining half neck similarly.BO 20 stitches for shoulder .

Front Piece

With white yarn CO 91stitches and make the border as in back

Now tie the yellow yarn .

1st line    * Knit 3, slip 1to right side needle without knitting. * continue this till end of the line last three will be knit

2nd line   * knit 3 *yarn in front slip 1 to right needle.yarn back and knit 3*Repeat from * to *

3rd line with rust. Knit 1, *slip 1,knit 3*  At the end slip 1 and knit 1

4th line  knit 1 *yarn in front slip 1.yarn in back knit 3*

At the end slip 1 ,yarn at back knit 1.

5th and sixth will be like 1st and 2nd but with white

This slipped stich will be in contrast color always and will give a lovely pearl like pattern.

When 16" in length shape the shoulder.

BO 4 ,3,and 2 stitches at the beginning of every line .at both sides.

After giving shape to the shoulder start giving shape for the neck.

Divide the remaining stitches in two in separate needles.

At the centre Bo 1 stitch in the beginning of every line    Then knit till shoulder length is achieved     .Leave 20 stitches for shoulder at both side .

Sew both sidw at shoulder and then take out  100 stitches for arm holes.Knit the borderof 1 knit and 1 pearl
for 10 lines.Make same border for another atmhole.

Now with help of a set of four needles take out 56, 56at both front side and 45 for back of the neck.

Make border of 8 lines and BO all stitches neatly.

Now Sew from both sides of front and back.

Tips  color and sequence can be changed according to the choice and availability.

Blue bricks knitted baby afghan

 

Beauty of this pattern is that it is reversible .It looks same from both sides.


Material required: 

A pair of  knitting needles     US   no 6,  UK  no 9

one chrochet hook of size 4mm

Blue knitting yarn  ( Bernat  Brand  3 balls)

Measurement  :  32"  by 42"

Cast on 150 stitches


This pattern consists of squares knitted by six stitches and six rows hence called bricks.

1st row:    *   Knit 6 and pearl 6  *  till end.Last six stitches will be knit

2nd row:    *  Pearl 6 and knit 6*  last 6 stitches will be pearl

3rd row :       like 1st row 

4th row :        like 2nd row

5th row          like1st row

6th row :       like    2nd row 

7th row:      * Pearl 6 and knit 6*    repeat till end

  This way a pattern of knit and pearl blocks will form alternately   like in picture  2

2nd  and 3rd and 4th and 5th   white row will be after 5 blocks each

In total 35 blocks have been knitted  with 5 lines of white in between.


Border:


With a chrochet hook and  blue yarn  start at the corner

 and make* half chrochet. three chain *  throughout the  four sides of the afghan.For making half chrochet once between the gap of two blocks and then in the middle of block..These chains and a haif chrochet will give a frilly look to the border

Material required 

3 skeins of caron brand yarn 

crochet  hook of   4.0mm

Measurement

34"  by  40"
With the crochet hook make 120  chains

1st row
 from the hook one half crochet in 2nd  chain and 3 chains and half chrochet in third chain leaving two chains in between
2nd row
In the space of three chains * three double chrochet three chain and half chrochet *  Repeat this in each 3 chain space.
3rd row
In the space of 3 chain   * 3 double chrochet 3 chain and one half chrochet.

Repeat this  from * to *  till  60 rows

It will measure 40"
Tie the yarn through loop.

Border

Make the border by chrocheting along the border in following pattern..
Make three double chrochet and one half chrochet in each loop along the four sides of the afghan.

Material required

A pair of needle size US 8

1 skien Caron brand knitting yarn   aqua blue

1 skien Caron brand offwhite

Cast on 35 stitches and make a border with 1 pearl .1 knit pattern till the border is 3 inches or 18 rows.

19th row   Knit all by  increasing one stitch at the beginning and one at the end of the row
Total 37 stitches
20th row all pearl

Take out all the stitches from the needle and fold the border exactly at the centre so as to divide the stitches in two.With help of a stitch holder put the stitches back in the needle picking up the 1 stitch alternately from both sides of the fold of border.
The trick for this is that with the help of a stitch holder catch all the stitches in the needle and afterwards the stitches can be arranged in a proper direction.

2   rows   With the light color yarn  (21st and 22nd row)
*1knit yarn in front 1 slip yarn at back 1 knit* continue for all the 19 stitches of one side and turn around with
same pattern i,e. one knit and 1 slip will be repeated  for remaining 18 stitches.Take care that the stitch which was slipped will be knitted this time. and slip the knitted one in previous row.

All the rows will be knitted this way.There will be no pearl.

Thumb

At the beginning of 27th row knit and slip till total 9 stitches and turn around leaving remaining stitches on the needle .Keep on knitting these 9 stitches till 10 rows This will make thumb.Then pass the thread through the 9stitches .

Palm

Now tie the dark color yarn to the first stitch of remaining 28 stitches.Knit and slip two rows.

With light color knit and slip two rows and again with dark color.

In all 8 rows will be knitted alternately with  two dark and two light color each.

Fore finger

Now knit slip 7 stitches near the thumb end for fore finger.Leaving remaining stitches on the needle keep on knit and slip till 12 rows and then pull the yarn through stitches.This is the fore finger .

Middle finger

Knit slip 8 stitches leaving remainig 13  stitches on the needle.Knit slip 14 rows .Then cut the yarn pass through
the stitches and the middle finger is ready.

Knit slip 7 for the next finger and knit slip till 12 rows .

Pinky 


Remaining six stitches are for Pinky finger.Knit slip nine rows.

Sew the gloves at the border and the open spaces between the fingers .Make 2nd glove same way.
